6th Grade Band
The 6th grade band at French is a great place for your student to start or improve their playing skills. The band is year two in the process to building your student into a confident player and musican. We start with breathing exercises and rhythm worksheets to lay a foundation for your student to be successful. We will prepare two to three songs for the fall semester and then three or four songs for the spring semester. Then we have two concerts, one at the end of each sememster. These concerts are required and a major part of your students overall grade.
We have playing tests during class and practice logs for the work you put in at home to make yourself better. (Look at the Practice Log Form page to get your practice log). Your grades are also based on daily participation and behavior.

7th and 8th Grade Band
The 7/8 Grade band at French Middle School is a very talented and successful group of young ladies and gentlemen. aThis group takes the next step on the process of making your student the great player he or she can be. We build on the foundations taught the year before. We then add in a 3 week introduction lesson on Marching Band, teaching all of the basic moves and transitions need to be successful in any high school marching band.
We then transfer into concert band, working on 2-3 selections for our winter concert and then 3-4 selection for our spring concert. 2 of those selection will be selected and played at contest in the beginning of April. We have been very sucessful at those contests receiving consistent superior ratings. The concerts and contest are required and a major part of your students overall grade.
